In your face, Kelly Clarkson! You suck! Kelly Clarkson is no longer Clive Davis' favorite. Nope, he's found himself a new gal: The UK's Leona Lewis.
Clive Davis gushed about Leona and her success to the AP. Watch the video below.
It seems to me like Clive has finally found his new Whitney Houston in Leona. As hard as he tried, Whitney never could live up to the squeaky clean, polished image that he crafted for her. Whitney's too gutter, too hood, too JERSEY for that. Once Whitney's good rep went up in a smoke of crack, Clive had to search for a new diva protege. He tried Kelly Clarkson for a while, but she got uppity and thought she knew better than he did. Hence, her disastrous release of "My December," which Clarkson was convinced was a gem. Clive won that battle.
Lewis' story is similar to that of Clarkson's. She was the winner of X-Factor, a Simon Cowell-produced singing competition, and she won a contract with J Records, just like the Idol winners. After she won, she quickly went to work on her album and produced the smash hit, "Bleeding Love," which is essentially a soft rock song set to a thumping Timbalandesque beat. Her album also debuted at #1 this week, so all is rosy for Ms. Lewis and Mr. Davis. For now that is. The sophomore album could mess her up. After all, Kelly was doing great until "My December" too.
