Last night was Mariah Carey night on "American Idol" and the results were very mixed. Mariah gave them tips when she could, but even the magic of Mimi couldn't save some of these Idols from themselves.
Syesha Mercado sang the fan-favorite, but unpopular song, "Vanishing." Kristy Lee Cook whined through the most "country" song Mariah's ever recorded, "Forever." Carly Smithson tried to tackle "Without You," but I think at this point I prefer "Ken Lee." El Archuleta predictably picked the banal ballad "When You Believe," Brooke White butchered "Hero," David Cook flipped "Always Be My Baby," and (alleged) marijuana boy Jason Castro whimpered through "I Don't Wanna Cry."
Notice that NONE of the Idols chose any of Mariah's contemporary work. Not a single one. They all went for old school Mariah, back when she used to sang. Take note of this, Mariah. I do wish El Archuleta had attempted Mariah's "Butterfly" with Sanjaya and Danny Noriega backing him up.
My prediction: Brooke White's gotta go. Her version of "Hero" was atrocious.
