Mariah is a hit-making machine. She's broken the Beatles record of #1s with her latest single, "Touch My Body," which is her 18th #1 single. 18 #1s. Let that sink in. That's amazing. Mariah's been in the game since the early 90s and even though some might say she's coo-coo for cocoa puffs, she keeps the hits coming. Let's look at all of the #1s Mariah has under her belt shall we?
The Good
Vision of Love - This is the song Snoop used to listen when he was in prison
Emotions - Mariah lets loose her high-pitched wail all over this funky early-90s jam.
I'll Be There - Mariah does Michael Jackson better than better Michael!
Dreamlover - The video for this song features Mariah dancing in a field full of field negros. Strange.
Hero - One of the defining songs of her career. It's schmaltzy, it's melodramatic, but it's Mariah.
Fantasy - This is the song where Mariah turned Hip Hop, oddly with the help of ODB.
One Sweet Day - The "In Memory of" song. Mariah and Boyz II Men bare all on this song about losing a loved one. In the video, Mariah is singing in booty shorts. Again, so Mariah.
My All - Mariah tackles unrequited love in Spanish guitarish ballad. Mariah's thesaurus rears it head in this song with the word "emblazoned" making an appearance.
We Belong Together- Mariah's triumphant return from the brink of (career) suicide. This slow jam even had the thugs noddin' their heads.
The Bad
Always Be My Baby - The doo-doo-doo-dahs begin to sound very Disneyish after a few listens.
Honey - Was Mariah even speaking English on this song? That chorus was indecipherable. This song marked the beginning Mariah's unfortunate habit of whisper talking.
Heartbreaker - With Mariah's street cred firmly established, she calls on Jay-Z to "chase the skeeos away."
Don't Forget About Us - This song isn't bad but it's pretty unremarkable. How'd it get to #1? Oh yeah, radio will play anything.
Touch My Body - The lyrics to this song are downright embarrassing for an almost 40-year-old to be singing. But to Mariah, it's not that deep.
The Ugly
Thank God I Found You - 98 Degrees is on this song. 'Nuff said.
Someday - Whoa, holy cheesy dance song.
I Don't Wanna Cry - One of her weaker ballads.
So there you have it, Mimi's #1s. AFP has the article about Mariah's achievement.
