Here we go again. Another rapper, another reality show.
T.I.'s reality show just got scooped up by MTV for 8 episodes, according to Variety Magazine. The show, which is supposed to follow T.I.'s life after his arrest on weapons charges last year, is yet another in a long line of "This is my life" reality shows. T.I.'s wouldn't be the first celebrity reality show centered around prison time either. Lil' Kim commissioned a reality show when she was about to get locked up. Thankfully, BET was kind enough not to show us the scariness that is Lil' Kim's face after a few months of no make-up and no weave while in prison.
I enjoyed these celebrity vehicles shows when it was a show that MTV used to do called "Diary." That show was awesome. You got a peek into an artist's life but you didn't get stuck with a bloated, overscripted, farce of a television drama. You actually felt like you were gaining insight into the artist and his or her work while he or she went on tour, signed autographs, crashed after a long day of promo or spent time with family. Aaliyah's "Diary" was so poignant and touching that it was played ad nauseum shortly after her death. Now, shows like Snoop's "Father Hood" are so obviously contrived, wannabe sitcoms that it's rendered the "reality" in reality show worthless.
Am I the only one getting fatigued with these celebrity reality shows? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of them. Flavor of Love was great the first two rounds, as was Run's House, the Surreal Life and the Keyshia Cole show. But aren't we stretching ourselves a little thin here?
