Last night the nomination of Barack Obama as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate was confirmed and realized. Obama reached the necessary delegate count to clinch the nomination and his supporters celebrated jubilantly. That Obama has supporters worldwide, from the US to Japan, is extraordinary for a relative rookie on the political scene. That Obama is receiving support in Kenya, the ancestral home of his absent father, is also understandable and even heart-warming. What is NOT okay, however, is trying to claim that Obama is not REALLY American, but in his heart of hearts, a Kenyan.
Watch the footage of some Kenyans espousing this nonsense for yourself.
Look, Obama is half-Kenyan and half-white. His father ABANDONED Barack and his mother when he was an infant. Barack saw his father only ONE time in his life. Barack was RAISED by his white American mother and his white American grandparents. Barack has little experience with Kenya and being Kenyan. His Kenyan father contributed NOTHING to Barack's life except for the semen and DNA necessary for his creation. Barack's father deserves NO CREDIT for anything his son is doing today. None. Zilch. Nada. He was a cut-and-run deadbeat dad. So go kick rocks, Kenya. Barack's not yours. If you wanted to claim him, then maybe Barack Obama Sr. should've done right by his family and helped raise his son.
On top of this foolishness about Kenya being Barack's real home, the destructive greed and self-serving attitude prevalent in so many African countries has reared its ugly head. One of the people interviewed in the AFP clip mentions that if Barack were elected president, Kenya would get more benefits from the American people. Huh? Barack is running for the U.S. presidency, NOT Kenya's. If KENYA wants benefits, they should stop burning, looting and murdering each other instead of looking for handouts from the U.S.
Kenya, SIT YOUR ASS DOWN. If you wanted to claim Barack, you shouldn't have thrown him away in the first place. Now that Obama is on the verge of making history, winning accolades from political pundits across the nation and making strides not seen by a young man in politics since JFK, Kenya says, "Hold up. Wait a minute. We want him back." Too little, too late. If Obama weren't running for president would Kenyans be clamoring to claim him? Nope.
I know this is harsh but this tomfoolery just really pissed me off.
