I don't know why Hollywood keeps doing this but they keep putting rappers in movies. Look, I'm not against EVERY rapper making the leap to acting, but let's be honest, the vast majority of rappers make for shitty actors. For example, 50 Cent, Bow Wow, Dr. Dre and Nas to name a few. And even those rappers who start out promisingly, can end up being a big, fat disappointment. Yeah, I'm looking at you Ice Cube. Mr. XXX, Mr. Are We There Yet?
Despite history and Samuel Jackson, Hollywood continues to hire rappers as actors and the latest MC to get his thespian on is Lil' Wayne aka Young Weezy, aka Weezy F. Baby, aka the Roach under your couch. Wayne is set to star in "Hurricane Season," a film about a high school basketball team in Louisiana and its rise to stardom after Hurricane Katrina. Big, fat YAWN. I saw this movie a few years ago when it was called "Coach Carter," and then again when it was called "Glory Road." I'm done with inspirational basketball movies about young, mostly black kids overcoming the same obstacles over and over again.
And Goddamn, isn't Lil' Wayne, a 25-year-old, a bit OLD to play a high schooler???? How about giving a young, unknown actor who's actually high school age a shot at the role? SMH.
MTV has a clip of Weezy yacking about his role in "Hurricane Season" and why his character Lamont is a hustler.
