Damn, homie. Janet Jackson's career is officially on hold, in a coma and on extended bed rest. Janet confirmed to the SOHH blog that Island Def Jam has officially stopped promoting her new album "Discipline." Ouch. I can't say it's a surprise. "Feedback" was a hot track but for whatever reason -- my guess is the retarded ass video she came up for it helped kill it -- it didn't reach the top of the charts and ended up as a dud. This, despite SIGNIFICANT promotion for the single and album. Then the follow-up single "Rock With You" subsequently went nowhere as well. Which was puzzling because the song fit right into the dance-influenced craze in pop music that radio has been eating up lately. But radio refused to touch "Rock With You" with a ten-foot pole and, kaboom, she had another flop on her hands.
All of this doesn't bode well for Janet. This is officially her THIRD flop in a row. First "Damita Jo," which understandably tanked after she lost most of her promo pull following her Super Bowl scandal. Then came the dreadful, Jermaine Dupri-helmed "20 Y.O." which tanked because it just SUCKED. Hiring the dirty sewer rat known as Khia for the first single also didn't help matters. And now, we can add "Discipline" to this list of flops, having sold only 392,000 copies.
You know what, Janet. It might be time to sit down and fade to black. You had a good run and you've given it a fair shot. I just hope you stacked up a good amount of paper from your "Rhythm Nation" days, cause clearly the checks ain't coming in from "Discipline."
Maybe Janet should set up shop permanently in Las Vegas like all the other old, used and unwanted divas, such as Toni Braxton and Celine Dion, have done. It's not a bad idea.
