Beyonce's younger sister, Solange Knowles, is putting out an "eclectic" album full of retro sounds and whimsical energy. You might have heard her smashing single "I Decided," you most likely haven't. And for Solange, she doesn't care if her album sells a ton or if it flops. She's moving back to the "country" if her singing career tanks. The "country" being Houston, the fourth-largest city in the US, where she is from. Yeah, you're really keepin' it real, Solange. Saying you don't care about your sales and that it's all about the art is a copout losers give when they know their albums will probably tank. Showbiz is called showbiz for a reason: It's a business. And in business, numbers do matter.
Watch the clip here.
Solange clearly suffers from sibling rivalry complexes, much like Jessica Simpson's younger sister, Ashlee Simpson. These girls are so desperate to carve out an identity separate from their famous, older siblings that they try so very hard to be different. "I'm nothing like Beyonce!" Solange exclaims over and over again.
And to give Solange credit, her sound is slightly different from her sister's. The music she put together for this album does have a tight theme with great production and impressive style. But she's kidding herself if she thinks that by interpreting a little Motown style into her music, she is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Beyonce. Beyonce did Motown with "Dreamgirls" so it's not miles away from her work.
Aside from that, this kind of attitude shows that Solange has a very bratty personality. Heck, Solange just got into a tiff with a local news anchor out of Las Vegas because they had the audacity, off-air, to ask her if they could talk about Jay-Z's nightclub in Vegas shutting down. She then threw a hissyfit with the anchor, calling her unprofessional and she left the viewing audience stunned and her publicists with a heart attack, I'm sure. Then, she took to YouTube to defend her bratty behavior.
And therein lies the difference between Beyonce and Solange. Beyonce is the consummate professional and while she keeps her private life very private, she would've never lost her cool the way Solange did. Of course, Solange probably misguidedly thinks this makes her more "authentic." HA! And I won't even touch her attempt at being a media analyst. Journalism is at an all-time low because they dared to approach her about her brother-in-law's business being sold? And then she takes to the Internet to say that he sold the club for a good piece of change? If you didn't want to talk about it on air, why did you get on YouTube to spill the beans?
Solange, you've got a long way to grow.
