Beyonce has added a tribute to the King of Pop in her road show, the "I Am...Sasha Fierce" tour. At the end of "Halo" she plays a video of her, Kelly Rowland and her mama getting ready to go out to see Michael Jackson in concert. Beyonce then gives a short speech talking about how seeing Michael perform inspired her to pursue a career in entertainment, and she then resumes singing "Halo" but replaces the "you" and "your" with Michael's name. Beyonce gets down on her knees and howls and thrashes. It's powerful and it comes off as organic. So much so that you'd think she was a grieving relative. Watch.
Now I'm one of the few who actually thoroughly enjoyed Beyonce's "Ave Maria/Angel" performance at the BET awards because I liked that she was showing that black singers are capable of singing more than just "Nah, nah diva is a female version of a hussler." But in light of Michael's passing, this rendition of "Halo" would've been much more appropriate and I'm sure there wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house.
