Something apologetic got into Kanye West this weekend. After dropping his new G.O.O.D. Friday track "Devil In A New Dress," Ye took to Twitter to finally and officially air out his thoughts on that night at the VMAs when he snatched the mic from the virginal Taylor Swift, making him Public Enemy #1.
In in a long series of tweets, Kanye explored the motivations of his outburst, bemoaned his portrayal in the media, vented about the painful death threats he received, extended an invitation to collaborate with Taylor and questioned who really benefitted from the Mic Snatch Heard Round the World firestorm. Here's a hint: Twitter, PhotoShop and MTV.
Kanye wrapped up his Twitter essay with a simple, stripped-down mea culpa to Taylor: "I'm sorry Taylor." Afterward, Kanye followed the country star, bringing his follower count to a whopping two people, with the other person he's following being Justin Bieber. Is this enough? Will the people who turned their backs on Kanye finally melt their hearts and let him back in?

The punishment for Kanye's "crime" has been unreasonably steep. He stole a moment from a privileged pop star at an award show known for celebrity stunts. It was wrong and pig-headed but it wasn't like he bruised anything other than egos. This Twitter apology seems like Kanye's attempt at his own Chris Brown moment (sans the messy tears), allowing him to get the public past his "controversy" and into his music. Will it work?
