After landing an opening slot in Beyonce's series of Revel performances, Luke James' stock has gone up considerably.
Signed to producer Danja's label New Age Rock Stars (NARS), James is a New Orleans born and bred singer; just like that other cat killin' the R&B game, Frank Ocean. His voice and lyrics convey a vulnerability and emotion that is slightly reminiscent of Maxwell. And his falsetto soars far higher than Justin Bieber's "swaggy" attempts.
The video for his latest single, "Mo' Better Blue," is a messy, sweaty, romp in the sack. James tosses and turns with his lover as he grapples with the fact that he has to let her go. It's hard to let a good thing go, but sometimes we really have no say in the matter.
