Aubrey O'Day covers Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know"

Hats off to you if you can figure out what Aubrey O'Day is doing with her music career. At this point, it looks like she's in "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" mode.

After her reality show All About Aubrey failed to produce a second season, Aubrey released "Wrecking Ball," a bland pop single penned by former American Idol contestant Pia Toscano.

But now, she's going the JoJo route and hoping to ride an Internet wave by putting her own spin on a cover of a male pop star's huge hit song. Jojo tackled Drake's "Marvin's Room" while Aubrey has chosen to take on Gotye's breakout single "Somebody That I Used to Know."

Assuming the persona of the other woman, Aubrey bemoans her status as a sideline chick as she claws back at her lover and his meddling wife in the song's lyrics.

Aubrey O'Day returns with generic-sounding "Wrecking Ball"

Bad girl Aubrey O'Day has finally emerged with some new material after everything went dark and quiet after she dropped her Universal/SRC-backed single "Automatic." If the credits on iTunes and the cheap cover art for "Wrecking Ball" are anything to go by, it looks like Aubrey's back on that independent path.

So what has Aubrey emerged with this time? "Automatic" followed the urban pop track that she was on with Danity Kane. But "Wrecking Ball," penned by American Idol alum Pia Toscano, opts instead for bland, pop midtempoism.

It feels really young and sounds like it'd be better suited for a Jojo or a Demi Lovato and it doesn't feel at all like the edgy, risktaking Aubrey we know, but with the right push, this vanilla track could work.

Aubrey O'Day is still clinging to the corpse of Danity Kane

Aubrey O'Day is, for reasons unknown, highly dedicated to the reunification of Danity Kane. For all the fun that she pokes at washed-up, '80s has-been Debbie Gibson on Celebrity Apprentice for delusions of a "comeback tour," every other word out of Aubrey's mouth seems to be about being a part of "platinum-selling girl group" Danity Kane.

Yeah, that's nice and all, but Danity Kane died in 2009. And they were doing tour stops in Six Flags' across the country. Let's not act like they were shutting it down and headlining at Madison Square Garden. Those girls were just getting started.

One of the main sticking points in a Danity Kane reunion was the bad blood between Aubrey and Dawn Richard. Aubrey was famously kicked out of the group for having a mouth, a neck swiveling problem and an attitude. Dawn, on the other hand, played the teacher's pet part and found herself rewarded by Diddy for her loyalty. That is until Dirty Money flopped for the 12th time and Dawn found herself in the same "dark and lonely" place Diddy banished Aubrey to.

But now that Dawn's free from Diddy's grasp, she's making amends with Aubrey and it feels oh so good.

You can't keep a good woman down, and though Aubrey O'Day is now ready to admit that being kicked out of Danity Kane dealt a serious blow to her self-esteem, the pop star gamely opened herself up in an interview with Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club for promotion for her reality show All About Aubrey on Oxygen.

Charlamagne tha God, being his usual rowdy self, kept blurting out that Aubrey and Diddy had sex. Diddy has denied it and Aubrey continued to deny that anything sexual ever went on between her and her former boss.

But she did reveal that she was there for the "drama" of Cassie's relationship with Diddy. She also spoke on her struggles with her weight, her solo music career, her opinion of Kim Kardashian's song and how none of the other Danity Kane girls have been able to mend fences with Dawn, who is still firmly in Diddy's camp being a member of his group Dirty Money.

Aubrey O'Day gets a second shot with reality show

Aubrey O'Day, formerly of Diddy's successful made-by-TV girl group Danity Kane, is going back to her roots: Reality TV. The former Bad Boy artist is back at square one after Diddy mercilessly sent the girls packing back in 2008 due to bickering and trust issues. After a few years as nothing more than a D-list tabloid tart, willing to do pretty much anything for a buck, including posing for Playboy and performing in a topless Vegas show.

A trailer has been released for Aubrey's upcoming reality show, All About Aubrey, slated for a premiere on March 7th on the Oxygen network. In the clip, we see Aubrey struggling to shed her tabloid image, including the pounds of make-up, weave and excess that drove Diddy insane when she was in Danity Kane. Thankfully, Johnny Wright, who was involved with Danity Kane in its earlier days, is along for the ride, providing Aubrey some truth serum and much-needed guidance.

Aubrey O'Day may have been down, but she's not out

Aubrey O'Day is most famous to Making the Band and Danity Kane fans for having a spitfire tongue and a neck capable of swiveling with the best of the 'round the way girls. When Diddy came in the room spitting hot lava at the DK girls for a poor performance or a weak dance routine, Aubrey was the one who consistently had the ovaries to stand up and say, "Go fug yourself, Puffy." That of course put her in Diddy's crosshairs and as the seasons went on and Aubrey's hair became bigger and blonder, and her public behavior turned more Paris Hilton-like, Diddy became all the way turned off and kicked her out of the group. Actually, right after he tossed Aubrey out, he kicked out her cohort D. Woods and placed the rest of the girls on hold, only to dissolve them later anyway and pluck Dawn from the remains for his Dirty Money project. See what a slick mouth will get ya?

Post-Danity Kane, Aubrey dove headfirst into her self-made career as a paparrazzi/tabloid demi-celebrity. She was all over the blogs not for any talent. She was the new sideshow circus, known for her hot mess outfits, her over-the-top interviews or her blunt sexuality, which she utilized to score a Playboy cover. Though she promised a solo music career on the Making the Band reunion show, a solo album has yet to materialize. Life was cold with Diddy, but the real world is even colder. Antarctic even. "I never realized how much Diddy and that entire Making The Band situation shielded us from and took care of us. I mean I had no idea what was going on until I had to step out there on my own with nobody protecting me. It is a whole other ball game. I mean we had everything handed to us in that situation and we really mostly could focus on our talent and focus on the enjoyment of what we were doing even though we (Danity Kane) still found ways to not do that."

Like Diddy said, "It gets real dark and lonely out there, baby girl." Now that Aubrey has toiled and struggled on her own for a bit, humility seems to finally have penetrated her thickened skull. And things appear to be on the up and up for her. She's booking meetings with producers for her long overdue solo album (Jim Beanz, pictured above, being one of them) and she's landed a reality show on the Oxygen network. There was a reality show pilot floating around last year that followed Aubrey and her stint on the Las Vegas show "Peepshow." It's unclear if the Oxygen show will pick up where this left off or if it'll be a totally new show. You can watch the pilot below.

Laurie Ann is seeing divisions in Day26

Laurie Ann was just as forthcoming when asked about the fate of DK’s male equivalent, Day26. “There’s an element of that [disconnect] that’s growing, absolutely.”

“I’m not sure how long Will — I mean, I love the boys,” she said probably realizing she was saying a bit too much. “They’re so talented and they have survived a lot, but they have to keep going. And like everybody they have to keep pushing. They can’t want the reward without the work. It just doesn’t happen like that in this business.”

Y'all saw that? She mentioned Willie by name, and then caught herself. It's been clear from the formation of the group that Willie was the breakout star of the group. He was the best looking, the best singer and Diddy always licked his lips when Willie walked in the room. Willie, more than any of the other guys, seems eager to strike it big and he's letting his frustrations with the group's failures known. He expressed disappointment in the "Stadium Music" video and he even took to Twitter offering his songwriting talents to "any A&R on Twitter." Obviously, all is not well in Camp Day26 when one of the lead singers of your group is frustrated that he's holding in "hits" and reaching out to A&Rs outside of Bad Boy. Perhaps Willie sees the writing on the wall. Without Making the Band to drum up hype for the group, who knows what will become of the group, so why not start making moves now?

Laurie Ann also touched on Danity Kane and their breakup. Nothing new on that front. The same ol', same ol' they got caught up in the hype and lost focus. Yada yada. She also declines to name names, but it's clear, like everyone else at Bad Boy, that she rests a lot of blame on Aubrey's shoulders. Aubrey's gonna get tired of these veiled comments and let the cat out of the bag one of these days.

Day26 (minus Robert) talk about their dirty laundry, sophomore album

All of those fights, howls and blows that were hurled during the last season of MTV's "Making the Band" weren't just for good reality TV. According to the guys in Day26, the fighting was a healthy and normal part of getting to know one another, since Day26 is a group of strangers put together by Diddy. Willie points out that Danity Kane went through the same thing, they just hid it pretending that everything was okey dokey.

The candor of the guys is laudable, but I think Danity Kane did the right thing. If you want people to take you seriously as artists, being reality TV jokes kind of puts a dent in that. Yeah, people are checking for Que now because of all the outbursts, but that's because people think he's a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and they're looking for the drama, not the music.

The fellas of Day26 also said that the first album was basically written and produced before they even became a group. All they had to do was lay down the vocals. Willie speaks of this as though that's a bad thing and he seems to think that the 2nd album is superior because they had a direct hand in the song writing and selection of producers. Uh, judging by the sophomore album versus the debut, Diddy is better at crafting an album than they are. If they get to make a third album, they should hand the reigns back.
